The University of Belgrade consists of 31 faculties, organized in 4 groups: social sciences and humanities, medical sciences, sciences and mathematics, and technology and engineering sciences. Also, it includes 11 scientific institutes and 13 centers. One of those centers is the Center for Students with Dissability, which operates for 14 years now, with the main goal to provide support to the disabled students, so that they can have equal opportunities for a quality higher education. Apart from it, there is a widening access program that operates within the Center for Career Development, too. This program was established through TEMPUS project EQUI ED in 2012-2014 and continued operating ever since. Through this program University of Belgrade provides support to students from underrepresented social groups to apply, enroll and sustain university education.
WHY WE ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PROJECT
Fourteen years ago, the University of Belgrade established the Centre for Students with Disabilities with the main goal to provide support to the disabled students so that they can have equal opportunities for a quality higher education. Apart from the Centre for Students with Disability there is a widening access program that operates within the Centre for Career Development, too. This program was established through TEMPUS project EQUI ED in 2012-2014 and has continued operating ever since. Through this program University of Belgrade provides support to students from underrepresented social groups to apply, enrol and sustain university education. Although the development of these centres has greatly contributed to improvement in diversity and inclusion, there is no a single program at the University that would comprehensively deal with a variety of inclusion issues. Therefore, participation in this project for the University of Belgrade represents an opportunity to share good experiences from practice, but also to gain knowledge and implement tools to improve institutional capacities that will lead to greater diversity among students and employees.
OUR ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Our main contribution will be in developing methodology and qualitative instrument for collecting inspiring cases of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access strategies from other universities. University of Belgrade together with University of Ljubljana, lead the process of identification, selection, establishing contact and collection of the cases of good practice. That is one of the first activities on the project, which will result in creating a repository of good practices. In the later stages of the project University of Belgrade will take part in piloting an action plan for developing IDEA strategy.
